| | | | | Welcome to Ms. VanderBorght's 3rd Grade English Language Arts | | A big welcome to the parents and students of my 3rd Grade English Language Arts Classroom for the 2007-2008 school year. I am delighted to have your student in my class! I am looking forward to getting to know your child. Perhaps you would like to know a little bit about me as well.
My name is Adrianne VanderBorght and this is my first year teaching at L'Etoile du Nord. My formal education includes a B.A. in French and a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Saint Thomas. I grew up speaking both English and French, as my father is Belgian and my mother is Swedish. Due to my father's work as a civil engineer, I spent my childhood and early adult years living in West Africa and Indonesia, which is how I developed a deep respect for diverse cultures and languages.

coming weeks, we will be studying spelling and vocabulary, having daily poetry readings, and of course reading, writing, and speaking English every day. We will be using the Saint Paul Public School's reading and writing curriculum to increase awareness of vocabulary building, phonics and decoding, comprehension and writing. We will work together as a whole group and also in small groups.
Homework will be assigned, and will become part of our routine. For the time being, we are focusing on our classroom work and routines.
As a class we have discussed classroom conduct and how we can create our best work, and learn with and from one another in the most friendly and caring way.
