Welcome to the Johnson High School English Department which cultivates the acquisition of language arts skills by actively engaging students in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students improve their skills in comprehending and analyzing the literature of the United States and the world. All non-elective English classes meet the Minnesota Academic Standards in Language Arts. Johnson students also have the opportunity to take both the College in the Schools (CIS) Composition and Modern Literature classes through the University of Minnesota. Students are required to accumulate a minimum of four English credits per year; however, they are encouraged to go beyond the minimum requirement and further improve their communication skills through additional study.
Congratulations to Tyme Enright this year's recipient of the Edna Moore award! Tyme also picked up the English Department award as well!

A thought before you surf away:
“Tis the good reader that makes the good book; in every book he finds passages which seem confidences or asides hidden from all else and unmistakenly meant for his ear; the profit of books is according to the sensibility of the reader; the profoundest thought or passion sleeps as in a mine, until it is discovered by an equal mind and heart.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
