Afoutayi Residency
Exposing our students to the arts and to other cultures is important to us. Each year, L'Etoile du Nord welcomes a resident artist to do just that.
Through grants and help from the PTO, L'Etoile du Nord is able to welcome a resident artist into our school each year. Most recently, our school has been working with Afoutayi Haitian Dance, Music & Arts.
Mme Djenane Saint-Juste, the founder and artist director of Afoutayi, comes to our school for two weeks and works daily with students in grades PreK-5 during specialist times. Along with her mother Mme Florencia Pierre (Mama Fofo) and other members of the Afoutayi artist group, they teach LNFI students about Haiti through dance, song, drumming, art, and cultural lessons... all while speaking French and Creole. At the end of the two week residency, students put on a performance for the school community to show off all that they have learned.
