Science
Science plays an important role in your child's education. Science teaches children to be critical thinkers which assists them in becoming independent minded people. In Science class with Mme Bissoy, students solve real-world problems and develop their critical thinking skills through project-based learning. Here are some examples of what LNFI students have done and continue to do in Science class:
- We stopped erosion on the front hill with natural plantings.
- We created a butterfly and bird garden to attract wildlife Creating rain garden using runoff from the school roof.
- We participated in the restoration of Lake Phalen and Keller Lake Habitat using natural plantings.
- We created 2 school Vegetable Gardens with Grants from the PTO and French Embassy FACE Foundation.
- Students in grades 4th and 5th, have the opportunity to participate in an after school science tutoring program to prepare them for the MCA science.
- Students practice being scientists by making predictions, conducting experiments, recording observations, analyzing results, and drawing conclusions.
- Science Fair is a big event in our school every year. Students from 1st to 5th grades chose and present a project to their peers and the school community.
- Students study multiple realms of science including Earth Science, Physical Science, and Life Science.
We are grateful to Sage Passi and the Ramsey County Watershed District for assisting us in these exciting learning opportunities. We are still looking for other environmental challenges in our school environment. With the help of everyone we find a way to solve them.
